Spent the day exploring the Top Arts exhibition at the NGV this weekend. It became a tradition in my family that every year on Mother's Day, we would go into town and visit the Top Arts Exhibition at my mum's request. Being the young, restless and unappreciative child that I was (and still kind of am), I resented these outings. It wasn't until I started doing art in High School that I actually came to have a newfound respect for all of the finalists in the Top Arts exhibitions each year. Can I just say though, to the curator of the NGV at Fed Square, please can you get your shit together, this exhibition space is horrid. I've been visiting the exhibition each year for as long as I can remember, like I said, and I've noticed that the quality of work has increased each year while the gallery space has been neglected almost at the same rate. These students deserve to have their work in a space that would house any Australian Solo Exhibition in the larger gallery spaces!!! It's so disheartening to see the works crammed into the corner of the NGV. Anyway, rant over. Here are some of the stand outs for me!!!
Callum Croker's work was featured in the exhibition, but I was unable to get any good images of his work!! Below are some of his fantastic works that were exhibited toward the end of 2014 at the Wesley College Art Show!! Visit his website here
A cool shot of a crane truck in the tiny Hosier Lane. We couldn't get a table at Movida Next Door but this picture was so much COOLER righttttt?
